My first graders really enjoyed drawing cardinals last year. First, we studied the difference in color of a male (red) Cardinal and a girl (gold) cardinal. Then, I showed them step by step how to draw the birds on a branch. Students were given the chance to include as many birds on the branch and add to the background. All of the drawings were very successful.
